The reason for using cassette seal is its combination of oil-seal, wear-sleeve and contaminant protection. The labyrinth part provides protection from outer contaminant like dirt, mud and slurry. The oil-lip, which retains lubricant oil, is on its fine turned sleeve. The sleeve part prevents the wearing of the shaft from oil-lip and dust-lip.
